Happy Caps Requirements

Each Happy Cap must be handmade - knitted, crocheted, loomed, or sewn. Requirements:

  • All must be handmade: crocheted, knitted, sewn or loomed.
  • Do not choose patterns that create holes - our patients prefer coverage.
  • Each must be new and unworn.
  • They must be made of washable fibers and fabrics. Do not use wool at all!
  • Use colors and styles that you like... if you like it, someone else will like it!

  • All Happy Caps MUST be made with SOFT yarns and fabrics. Many patients, especially those who lose their hair due to chemotherapy, have a very sensitive scalp.
  • Appliqués or flowers, etc., must be sewn on.
  • We prefer seamless caps for a smooth, comfortable feel.
  • Hats must be smoke-free, odor-free, and pet hair-free.
  • See size requirements below.
  • Hats that do not meet requirements are donated to other causes.

Sizing

Happy Caps Sizing Chart To Fit (male or female)

Adult Small

Circumference 18-20 inches - Brim Edge to Top minimum of 7 inches.


Adult Medium

Circumference 20-22 inches - Brim Edge to Top minimum 8 inches... MOST adults wear a Medium.


Adult Large

Circumference 22-24 inches - Brim Edge to Top minimum of 9 inches.


Cap patterns, unless labeled as chemo caps, are sized to allow for hair.


Please adjust patterns to fit the actual measurements above and based on the tightness of your stitch.

A. A sleep cap is made with fine yarn, with no embellishments, to maximize comfort when sleeping. It is usually lighter than general Happy Caps, but can certainly be worn outside too.
